You sunk my battleship!

June 30, 2008

I just got smoked playing my first game of Sea Wars, the online version of the popular 80s classic, Battleship, to some guy named Mauro.  I’m not counting my 1st first game of Sea Wars which ended abruptly when my opponent forfeited after firing two missing shots at my board.  I’m either that intimidating or his mom called him down for dinner.

Sea Wars sets you up for battle with a live opponent and has a great interface that includes the ability for players to IM each other during the matchup – PURRRfect for trash talking while blowing torpedoes at each other.  They could probably increase plays if they offered a quick version for ADD types and those of us with only 5 minutes between meetings to blow off steam…
Try it here and let me know what you think.

What’s your schoolyard favorite?

June 29, 2008

Growing up, the schoolyard games I loved playing most were dodgeball and kickball.   This weekend, 150 of us big kids got reacquainted with big bouncy red balls while playing in SF Fun Raisers’ 2nd Annual Blast from the Past Kickball Tournament.  Our team of misfits took home the 2nd place trophy and the tournament raised over $5,000 benefitting Real Options for City Kids (R.O.C.K.).

Did I mention that we took home a trophy?!  Team Squishers rocked it.

What was your favorite schoolyard game growing up?  And if you played in the tourney this weekend, what was your favorite moment on the field?  My favorite?  I loved seeing all the bodies tumbling on the field as people stretched themselves to catch balls and get on base.

Me? Genius? Oh stop…

June 28, 2008

The problem with being labeled a genius is… Oh where do i start?!  Ha.  It makes me hesitant to play the “Who has the biggest brain” game again since I’d hate to drop back down to ape status after scaling such heights.  The other problem with it is that it makes me suspect of the game!!  Regardless of how true or untrue my new label may be, I’m pretty psyched.

Think I’ll start wearing my specs again.  Gotta keep up appearances!

Word Challenge: Scrabble on speed!

June 27, 2008

I decided to give Word Challenge a try after seeing it on a friend’s Facebook page.  It’s like Scrabble on speed — you’re given 7 letters and 2 minutes to create as many words as possible.  The key is to try every letter combination you can think of.  Apparently I have the vocabulary of a ”School-yard Bully”.  At least I didn’t get ranked as a “Mime”.   Perhaps there’s a Poet among us?  You all know to beware of smooth talkers, right?  Right?  And no one likes a smarty pants!

Want to play?  Head here and let me know how you do!

Have you been PS3-ing or Wii-ing lately?

June 26, 2008

Sure, I wee all the time.  Ha.

Around midnight last night, we gave the new drumset a go and hooked up our guitar and microphone to stage a RockBand rockout.  I’m sure our downstairs neighbors loved that… Ruben took to the drums, Wally the guitar, and I did my best Courtney Love impression as we  ripped through Hole’s Celebrity Skin.  It was awesome!

Would love to hear if you’ve been strumming, singing or Nintendo Wii-ing lately…

What’s your game history?

June 25, 2008

My brother and I had a tiny Atari game when we were little.  It was our prized possession, and in my mind it blows away all the super-real, mega animated games around today.  Growing up, Galaga was, and still is, my favorite arcade game.  I also loved Centipede and would get carried away with the little spinning ball…   In junior high, it was Super Mario everyday afterschool at my best friend’s house.

Last week I rediscovered console games now that our new roommate, Ruben, has hooked up our pad with PS3.  So far, I’ve played Guitar Hero (3 guitars) and American Idol Karaoke (3 microphones! – perfect for a TLC number).

A RockBand drumset appeared over the weekend and  I can’t wait to give it a go!  Until then, I’m checking out new online games inbetween meetings…  What’s your game history?!

Extreme Heli Boarding is hella fun

June 25, 2008

Totally cute RockYou game though it’d be more fun if I could pick my avatar and dress her up with glittery goggles and add stickers to my board.  I’m still learning how to play – and for the moment I kinda suck.

Let me know if you have any tips!

WordTwist

June 25, 2008

This Zynga game is okay for the first few plays, but it’s not as fun as the brain game.  Heading back to the work world now.  Boo.   More play later!

Back to Ape

June 25, 2008

On my 3rd go at the game I fell back to Missing Link status.  Ahhh!!  I like how it get’s a little bit harder… Math was easiest for me, and the puzzle pieces were the hardest.

Which part of the game are you good at?  And which part kills you?

The Brain Game: Ape to Average Jane

June 25, 2008

Managed to sneak in 15 minutes of “Who’s got the biggest brain?” from Playfish and my initial score landed me in the ”Missing link” group.  With try #2, I moved up from Ape status to Average Jane.  I love that I can compare scores with my FB friends!

I’m still new to games… so send along your favorites… And let’s play!
